  • Nintendo Switch Online out September 18
  • NES titles require weekly logins
  • You can use 'Suspend Points'

Nintendo will require Switch players to login once a week to retain access to NES titles available via Nintendo Switch Online, it has revealed. Buried in the FAQ section of Switch Online, Nintendo states that NES – Nintendo Switch Online games “can be played offline for up to 7 days as long as you have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership”.

That restriction is bound to be frustrating for some players, especially those travelling internationally and don’t have easy access to the Internet. In addition, Nintendo says your save data will only be “available for as long as you have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership”, so make sure you always have a local backup.

While both those facets of Switch Online are disappointing, one of the good aspects – in addition to the list of NES titles that will be available – is that Nintendo will allow you to save your game at any point while playing. These are known as ‘Suspend Points’. With this, you can pick up right where you left off and don’t have to worry about your save progress.

Lastly, Nintendo has built a feature for two player co-op play that displays a hand-shaped icon on your friend’s screen, which is helpful for giving hints and pointing out locations. Nintendo says you can also “clap to congratulate” your teammates.
