Acer launches Android-based DA220HQL Smart Display

Acer has forayed into the Android-powered display category with the Smart Display DA220HQL. The device is at display at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013.

Acer Smart Display DA220HQL comes with a 21.5-inch with 1080p display and comes with a VA technology. It is powered by dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4428 CPU along with 1GB of RAM. The device also comes with microSD card slot that supports cards up to 32GB. There is also a 1.2MP front-facing camera for making video calls. Connectivity options include three USB ports, micro-HDMI port and Ethernet jack.

As for the looks, Acer Smart Display DA220HQL comes with narrow bezel, but does not stand out in terms of pure design.

According to Engadget, the device is expected to be available in Europe starting March for 399 Euros.

It is noteworthy, that ViewSonic has already launched VSD240, which is a 24-inch monitor powered by Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Just like the Acer monitor, Viewsonic monitor too sports a 21.5-inch screen. Viewsonic VSD240 comes with full-HD display and is powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core Tegra 3 chip along with a TI multi-core OMAP processor.

The monitor also comes with a 1.3-megapixel webcam, microphone and speakers. Connectivity options on the VSD240 include WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, Ethernet and USB ports, along with an SD card slot. The device is expected to be available in April for $499.

Engadget point out that Acer's Android-based monitor has better looks than Viewsonic one. As per the company this monitor is target at the enterprise customers, but Acer on its part has not disclosed any specific target segment. There is no word on when the Acer Smart Display DA220HQL will be available in India and what could be the tentative price.

Acer had recently launched its Iconia B1-A71 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013. The Taiwanese company has added a 16GB variant for this tablet and is planning to ship it for 139 Euros in Europe, Middle-East and Africa.
