HP Launches Envy x2 Hybrid With Microsoft Surface Pro-Like Design

HP, after unveiling the Envy x2 at IFA 2014 without pricing or a precise release date, has this week launched the hybird laptop with a detachable wireless keyboard, starting at $749.99 (approximately Rs. 45,000) for the 15.6-inch model (HP Envy x2 15t), and $799.99 for the 13.3-inch model (HP Envy x2 13t).

The 64-bit Windows 8.1-based HP Envy x2 13t comes in two screen resolution options, HD (1366x768 pixels) or full-HD (1920x1280 pixels), while the HP Envy x2 15t comes in only full-HD option. Both the 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch models feature a WLED-backlit IPS touchscreen display and a Microsoft Surface Pro 3-like kickstand at the back, apart from the bundled detachable Wireless Bluetooth backlit keyboard.

The new HP Envy x2 models come with a choice of Intel Core M 5Y10 or Intel Core M 5Y70 dual-core processors, and 4GB or 8GB of RAM. Notably, the 15.6-inch model only comes with a 500GB hybrid drive with 16GB of flash storage, while the 13.3-inch model comes with a 128GB SSD (with 256GB and 512GB SSD options).

The HP Envy x2 13.3-inch model packs a 2-cell 33 watt hour Li-Ion battery, while the 15-inch model comes with a 3-cell 50 watt hour Li-Ion battery.

The 13-inch HP Envy x2 (tablet and keyboard) weighs 4.05lbs (approximately 1.83 kg), and the tablet separately weighs 2.81lbs (approximately 1.27kg). The 15-inch HP Envy x2 (tablet and keyboard) weighs 5.42lbs (approximately 2.46 kg) and the tablet separately weighs 4.04lbs (approximately 1.83kg).

The 13-inch Envy x2 device (tablet and keyboard) measures 357.37x217.67x19.30mm (14.07x8.57x0.76 inches) and the 15-inch device measures 414.27x242.82x20.32mm (16.31x9.56x0.8 inches).

Additional features on the HP Envy x2 include Beats stereo speakers and SD card slot. HP notes that the device "runs cool and quiet with a design that eliminates the fan." Both HP Envy x2 variants come with 30-day trial of McAfee LiveSafe antivirus software pre-installed.
