Microsoft is betting big on Windows 8 this month. After a series of announcements, the software giant released its first official Windows 8 commercial highlighting some of the aspects of its latest OS.

The 30 second commercial is pretty groovy and flaunts the versatility of the Windows 8 platform by showcasing its functionality on traditional PCs, tablets, and touchscreen notebooks with the song "Only Want You" by the Eagles of Death Metal playing in the background.

The campaign also puts up the tagline "Windows Reimagined" which has been seen in the past highlighting the unconventional Windows platform. The ad ends with a 10.26.2012 date line, the day of the Windows 8 launch for which the company has already been sending out media invites.

The invites also mention a special "Surface Reception" event on October 25, confirming the launch of its first Surface tablet. Microsoft unveiled its new line of Surface tablets at an event held at Milk Studios in Hollywood back in June. While one will feature Windows 8 Pro, the other will run on Windows RT with ARM-based processor.

Microsoft recently opened its Windows 8 operating system for pre-orders, setting the price for the full version of the software at $70 for a DVD pack.

The company also just launched its much awaited Xbox Music service, to vie with Apple's iTunes and Amazon's Cloud Player. Xbox Music is expected to offer ad-supported free music streaming on any device that uses a Microsoft-built OS including Windows 8 PCs and tablets, Windows Phone and of course, the Xbox 360.

While Microsoft founder Bill Gates called the new Windows 8 operating system "a very exciting new product" and "a very big deal" for the world's largest software maker, other reports suggest that the Redmond-based company is releasing Windows 8 to the public despite it being full of bugs and other issues. There is no word on how Microsoft is going to push these updates to the public, but it is expected to be through the company's Windows update system.

Microsoft is not the only company to launch Windows 8 devices. Manufacturers like HP, Dell and Lenovo have already made Windows 8 tablets, ultrabooks and all-in-ones official.
