Android lovers are forever looking forward to the next version of the operating system. Most people were expecting Google to announce the same at the its developers conference, Google I/O, earlier this year. With that done and dusted, the question still remains what will be the next version of operating system - Android 4.3 or Android 5.0 - and, more importantly, when this update be released.

A news report by vr-zone.com suggests that Google will be unveiling the next Android version sometime in late October. The report also goes on to claim that it will indeed be Android 5.0, which is also referred as Key Lime Pie.

It is being touted that Motorola will be unveiling its mysterious "X" smartphone around the same time.

This is not the first time that we are hearing rumours of this sort. Earlier in the month of April, a news report claimed that Motorola X smartphone has made an appearance on the AnTuTu Benchmark results. This report also mentioned that the smartphone caught in the benchmark was running on Android 5.0.1.

As far as Google in concerned, the Internet search giant too had adopted a similar strategy when it rolled out Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The new version of the software was launched in November 2011 along with a new device Galaxy Nexus. So it will not come as a surprise if the company follows the same strategy even this year for Android Key Lime Pie.

Furthermore, vr-zone.com claims that Android 5.0 is likely to be heavily optimised and will be able to run on smartphones that have just 512MB of RAM. If this bit of information is indeed true, then it will help the company in tapping the lower-end of the market in a much effective manner.

However, from this report is not clear if in the meantime Google may decide to rollout another update in the form of Android 4.3.
