Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Asus may join the likes of Nokia, Reliance Jio, and Micromax, who are said to be working on Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphones. An alleged Asus smartphone with model number X00RD has appeared in a benchmarking website, with just 1GB of RAM and Android 8.1 Oreo.

Asus has already released invitations for its event at MWC 2018 in Barcelona, where the ZenFone 5 2018 series, including the ZenFone 5 Lite, is expected to be launched. Meanwhile, we can also expect the leaked smartphone to get announced at the event.

As per the specifications revealed in Geekbench, the upcoming smartphone runs Android version 8.1.0. The handset will be powered by a Snapdragon 425 SoC, which is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The Snapdragon 425 is a 28nm processor and comes with support for up to 800x1280 pixels resolution.

The specification list of the Asus X00RD does not reveal too many details. However, the handset scored 640 in single-core test and 1,664 in multi-core test.

It should be noted that the is no explicit mention on whether the Asus Zenfone X00RD will come with Android Oreo (Go edition) or not. However, given the specifications, it will be surprising if the company brings out a handset with 1GB RAM, without Android Go. However, Asus has not shared any plans officially, regarding the launch of an Android (Go edition) smartphone.

Android Oreo (Go edition) aka Android Go is a trimmed down version of Android Oreo aimed at low-cost smartphones. Google had announced Android Go during the opening keynote of the I/O developers conference in 2017. Android Go is a program similar to Android One that also aims to improve the budget smartphones ecosystem.
