Cyanogen Reportedly Published Inaccurate User Base Figures

It seems problems for Cyanogen won't end soon as the company has been alleged to be reporting "inaccurate" user numbers.

According to a report, Cyanogen back in 2014 claimed that it had around 20 million "tracked" users while this number rose to 25 million by 2015. Notably, the numbers cited are for the CyanogenMod ROM and not Cyanogen OS. The Information saw an internal document that puts suspicion over the reported user base figures by the company.

The report claims that back in March this year, two company executives were involved in a document preparation for Cyanogen board meeting. The executives expressed their concern over the reported numbers over a period of time. The updated version that had Cyanogen's KPIs "key performance indicators" was also seen by The Information. The suspicion came as the reported numbers by Cyanogen fluctuated as well as it didn't mention whether the users were still active.

Cyanogen recently went through a lot of turmoil where the company had to lay off almost 20 percent of its entire workforce. The biggest impact of the layoffs was on the team behind the Cyanogen OS commercial distribution, and not those involved with the CyanogenMod project.

Following several reports claiming that Cyanogen was looking to "pivot to apps," Cyanogen CEO Kirt McMaster had to strongly refute reports that it was pivoting to apps and even confirmed that the company was committed to its OS plans.

The CEO had also revealed that CyanogenMod isn't going anywhere, nor Cyanogen will be discontinuing its efforts towards the goal of bringing it to a larger audience.
