Google Details When Each Nexus Device Will Stop Receiving Android Updates

We already know that Google's Nexus devices are launched with a guarantee of Android version updates for at least two years from when the device became available on the Google Store. For security patches, Google previously confirmed that these updates for Nexus devices will be available for the longer of 3 years from availability or 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device. Now, Google has listed when the current Nexus devices will stop receiving updates from the company.

Google on its Support page lists the details and notes, "After a certain period, Google can no longer guarantee that a device will get version updates or security patches." According to the listed details, the Motorola Google Nexus 6 will stop receiving updates after October 2016 alongside the HTC Google Nexus 9 tablet. The latest Huawei Google Nexus 6P and LG Google Nexus 5X will stop receiving updates from the company after September 2017. The listing clearly points that the dates mean end-of-life dates for Nexus devices as it says, "No guaranteed Android version updates after."

The support page also mentions that Android One devices will receive software updates for at least 18 months after the phone's launch. The listing says, "All partners have committed to giving software updates for at least 18 months after the phone's launch. All Android One phones will get at least one major software update and several smaller security updates."

The Google Support page also lists that the dated Nexus 5 received its last update from the company in October 2015. The Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 10 tablets stopped receiving updates from Google in July 2015 and November 2014 respectively.
