  • HTC's 'Marlin' Nexus phone is expected to be platform lead for Android N
  • FCC listing has also tipped a new Huawei Nexus phone for 2016
  • Google is expected to launch Nexus hardware with Android N later this year

HTC is rumoured to be working on two Nexus smartphones, codenamed M1 and S1 (the short forms for codenames Marlin and Sailfish), to launch this year. Now, a new leaked image has purportedly showed the new 'Marlin' Nexus smartphone running the latest Android Nougat. Additionally, a new FCC listing has tipped a new Huawei Nexus device, believed to be the successor to the last year's Nexus 6P.

The leaked image posted by TechDroider shows an image of a handset covered in a cover to hide the design. The settings page clearly shows the handset running Android N. Notably, the leaked image also showed the model number listed as 'Marlin'. Unfortunately, no other details could be deciphered from the leaked image.

Based on preliminary leaks, the HTC 'Marlin' Nexus smartphone is claimed to sport a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a USB Type-C port, much like the current Nexus smartphones. For specifications, the alleged 'Marlin' Nexus is expected to sport a 12-megapixel rear camera alongside an 8-megapixel front camera. The handset is said to feature 4GB of RAM and pack a large 3450mAh battery. The handset is also expected to come in 32GB and 128GB storage options and there will be no 64GB storage model. 'Marlin' Nexus smartphone is also said to support Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity option.

In another leak, a new Huawei Nexus smartphone has been tipped via the FCC listing. The model names listed on FCC claims two models of the same Huawei device dubbed the H1622 and H710VL. It's worth noting that the Huawei Google Nexus 6P came with model name H1511 and H1512. Considering there have been multiple leaks claiming two new Nexus smartphone from HTC this year, it may be unlikely we see a Huawei Nexus phone in 2016.
