EMUI 9.0 attempts to take on Google’s Android 9.0 Pie with security and functionality features

Chinese tech giant Huawei Consumer Business Group on Thursday announced the official launch of its latest EMUI 9.0 mobile operating software in the Indian market. Having launched in India, the Android 9.0 Pie-based ROM will be released for Huawei's smartphones in the future after localised contributions have been made by the company's Indian R&D team. With an “India-first” approach, Huawei will look to introduce features such as support for 28 Indian languages, customised local calendar, and deeper integration of Paytm. EMUI 9.0 attempts to take on Google's Android 9.0 Pie with security and functionality features.

To recall, Huawei had first globally announced EMUI 9.0 at IFA 2018, and it has since been rolled out as part of the beta programme. Powered by Android 9.0 Pie under the hood, this custom ROM is claimed to offer 12.9 percent better performance compared to the previous EMUI version. It is equipped with GPU Turbo 2.0 technology that will help devices manage intensive workloads while reducing power consumption.

The new graphics processing acceleration technology in EMUI 9.0 is being touted to improve user experience by enhancing touchscreen responsiveness and network connectivity. Apart from that, it comes with several other features including HiVision, a new Password Vault, Digital Balance dashboard, Wind Down for de-addiction, and all other standard Android Pie features.

EMUI 9.0 in beta is currently open to European Huawei devices including Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, P20 Pro, P20, Honor 10, Honor View 10, and Honor Play. Users can sign up for the beta to receive the EMUI 9.0 OTA update as and when it becomes available. Huawei claims that EMUI specific research is conducted at several of its research institutes in India, China, Europe, and North America.
