Apple's iOS 8, the latest mobile operating system powering iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, is now powering 75 percent of active iOS devices, according to the latest figures posted by the Cupertino-based company.

The firm recently updated its App Store Distribution page to show the OS distribution data of App Store visitors on March 2, split between iOS 8, iOS 7 and earlier iOS versions. The official App Store Distribution page reveals that the 75 percent of active iOS devices are running iOS 8, followed by 22 percent still running iOS 7, and 3 percent still running earlier versions.

The new figures shared by Apple if compared to last month's figures show a minor rise in iOS 8 adoption numbers - a negligible 3 percent. On February 2, Apple said 72 percent of active iOS devices were running iOS 8, while 25 percent were on iOS 7, and 3 percent on previous versions.

The numbers reported by Apple overall definitely show a rise in iOS 8 adoption if compared to the numbers revealed a couple of months ago. Apple in January suggested that 68 percent of devices were running iOS 8, followed by 29 percent running iOS 7, and the rest 4 percent on earlier versions.

Two analytics firms, Mixpanel and Fiksu also reveal similar figures of iOS 8 adoption. According to Mixpanel (see below), iOS 8 powers 78.32 percent of devices, iOS 7 still runs on 20.08 percent devices and older versions powering 1.61 percent iOS devices, as of March 4. According to analytics firm Fiksu, iOS 8 is at the 73.6 percent mark, iOS 7 is at 22.6 percent, while older versions are present on 3.8 percent of devices.

Apple's iOS 8 has no doubt reached more devices in less time than Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop. It took Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop more than four months to reach 3.3 percent of the worldwide users, according to Google's own figures shared in March.
