Apple on Wednesday launched the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, alongside the new Rose Gold colour variant for the smartphone duo. The Cupertino-based tech firm also discontinued the plastic-bodied iPhone 5c. It also removed the Gold colour option for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, and dropped their prices as well.

As clearly seen on the company's updated website, Apple has now removed the Gold colour option from iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. This leaves the three smartphones with only two colour options - Silver and Space Gray. However, the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus would arrive in all four colours - Silver, Space Gray, Gold and Rose Gold. So users who wanted to buy a Gold colour iPhone model, would now have only the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to choose from - a move obviously hoped to spur sales of the more expensive new models.

In addition, as it has done with previous iPhone launches, Apple has dropped prices of the older iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus as well. All three models will be $100 (roughly Rs. 6,700) cheaper.

As announced during the launch event, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus would now start at $99 (roughly Rs. 6,600) and $199 (roughly Rs. 13,300) on 2-year contracts. The handsets used to start at $199 and $299 (roughly Rs. 20,000) respectively. The 16GB iPhone 5s would be available for free with a 2-year contract.

In terms of contract-free unlocked prices, the 16GB variant of the iPhone 5s will be priced at $449 (roughly Rs. 30,000), the iPhone 6 at $549 (roughly Rs. 36,600), and the iPhone 6 Plus at $649 (roughly Rs. 43,300).

The price for the unlocked versions of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus remain unchanged compared to their predecessors at launch: $649 for the 16GB iPhone 6s, $749 (roughly Rs. 50,000) for the 64GB iPhone 6s and 16GB iPhone 6s Plus, $849 (roughly Rs. 57,000) for 128GB iPhone 6s and 64GB iPhone 6s Plus, and $949 (roughly Rs. 63,200) for the 128GB iPhone 6s Plus.

The new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus smartphones would start at $199 and $299 with 2-year contracts, which were the original prices of the older iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models. The 64GB version of the new handsets would cost $100 more and the 128GB would be priced $100 more than the 64GB version. The duo will be up for pre-orders starting Saturday. India launch dates or the prices of the smartphones are not yet out.
