Lenovo has quietly launched its latest A-series smartphone in India, the A5000. The new Lenovo A5000 smartphone is now available to buy from the company's online store at Rs. 9,999. Notably, the launch price of the Lenovo A5000 is in line with what an established Mumbai-based retailer claimed last week.

The smartphone was first launched in Russia last week, while it was also listed on Lenovo's official UAE site without price details. Currently, Lenovo's TheDoStore is taking pre-orders for the smartphone and lists April 30 as the shipping date.

One of the most notable features of the Lenovo A5000 is that it is backed by a large 4000mAh battery which is rated to deliver up to 17 hours of talk time and up to 792 hours of standby time on 3G networks. The official listing also confirms that the Lenovo A5000 just supports 3G connectivity with no 4G LTE support. Taking all this into account, Lenovo's pricing strategy for the A5000 in India seems little confusing, with the firm offering the better-specced Lenovo A6000, A6000 Plus, and A7000 at lower prices in India - though none feature a battery as big.

The company also touts that the smartphone's Quick Charge feature allows the battery to get fully charged in 3 hours while a 15-minute charge offers up to 4 hours of talk time.

The Lenovo A5000 is a dual-SIM (Micro-SIM and regular SIM) device which runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box. It comes with a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display offering a pixel density of 300ppi. The Chinese company also claims that the handset features rain and splash-proof screen protection.

The smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek (MT6582) processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and Mali T760-MP2 GPU. The Lenovo A5000 comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). It sports an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash while there is a 2-megapixel fixed-focus front-facing camera also on board.

Apart from 3G, the Lenovo A5000 offers GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth connectivity options.

It measures 140x71.4x9.98mm, weighs 160 grams, and is listed in Black and White colours. The Lenovo A5000 packs sensors such as an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and a proximity sensor.
