It seems LG's first curved display smartphone, the G Flex, is all set to go 'compact', if a new report emerging from India is to be believed.

Gizbot, in a report citing an LG India executive, claims that the South Korean giant will soon launch the successor to the LG G Flex, likely to be called G Flex 2. Further, the successor to the G Flex is said to be "compact" and sport a "better than full-HD" display.

The report suggests that the reported G Flex 2 will be initially announced in Korea by the year-end, and will be later rolled out in other markets including India and the US.

Unfortunately, the executive has not tipped any details about the innards of the reported successor to the G Flex.

The current claim goes in-line with an earlier report that tipped LG would launch the as yet unannounced G Flex 2 in the second half of 2014. LG in a press conference in Seoul parallel to the launch of LG G3 in May had reported tipped that the G Flex 2 unveiling would be alongside the Vu 4 smartphone.

Considering that the G Flex was launched globally in October last year, it is quite possible that the G Flex 2 might arrive in the same period this year.

The LG G Flex (Review | Pictures) reached Indian shores in February carrying a massive price tag of Rs. 69,999. However, the smartphone is now retailing at a much lower price tag of around Rs. 43,000 at some online retailers in India.

To recall, LG G Flex was one of the first smartphone's to live up to the name of 'curved, flexible display' along with an innovative 'self-healing' back panel.

Notably, the high pricing and tall form factor thanks to the 6-inch HD display were few of the reasons that the G Flex never took off in the market.
