OnePlus 5 Emergency Call Bug Fix Reportedly Causing Battery Life Issues

While OnePlus can be commended for swiftly pushing out a fix for the emergency calling bug, it appears its swiftness may have resulted in another issue. The bug fix update for the emergency call issue, where OnePlus 5 users faced unexpected reboots while calling helpline numbers including 911, reportedly brought along battery life issues to the smartphone. OnePlus has separately been tipped to be working on improving the battery life on the handset with its upcoming OxygenOS 4.6 update.

Several users on the company's official forum have complained that they are facing battery life issues with their OnePlus 5 units after they installed the bug fix update for the emergency call issue on their smartphone. Some users have complained that their smartphone loses around 20-25 percent battery during night time in idle state even when the doze mode is switched on.

"There were no issues no initially. Since last 2 days, since I have got update for 911 error, I am suffering massive battery drain in phone idle. It's about 30 percent with all the apps running and 20 percent with closing all apps and Internet in 6 hours of sleep mode. Please guide me," one of the users said on the forum.

One of the workarounds suggested on the forum is to switch off Reliance Jio SIM in case it is not being used as a default SIM card for data consumption. However, the company is yet to respond on the issue. Considering that the issue has been reported by several users on the official forum, it is likely that a patch will soon be issued regarding the same.

Separately, French publication Frandroid has reported citing sources with knowledge of the matter that OnePlus has already started working on its upcoming OxygenOS 4.6 update and that the company is aiming to improve the battery life of the smartphone with it. One of the ways mentioned in the report for increasing the battery life is by integrating Energy Aware Scheduling (EAS) technology into the smartphone's kernel, as pointed out in a report by PhoneArena.

As per the report, EAS takes advantage of the big.LITTLE architecture that is present inside capable processors like the Snapdragon 835 in OnePlus 5 to manage the cores of the SoC in a better manner and assign tasks to different parts more efficiently. While EAS is already implemented in Google's Pixel smartphones, other handsets with similar kernel version - Galaxy S8 and Xiaomi Mi 6 - might soon get the benefit from the technology, according to the report.
