  • OnePlus is tipped to skip a moniker due to superstitions
  • OnePlus 5 is expected to sport a Snapdragon 835 SoC
  • The smartphone is tipped to pack an 8GB of RAM

OnePlus is expected to jump from the OnePlus 3T name to OnePlus 5 for the 2017 flagship, skipping the "four" moniker as it is considered unlucky in China. While an earlier leak gave us a glimpse at what we can expect from the smartphone, a new report sheds further light on it - and hints at a handset ready to take on the likes of Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6.

According to Chinese site PCPop, the OnePlus 5 is expected to pack 8GB of RAM and will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The report states that the smartphone will sport hardware navigation keys, although the bezel will be slimmer than the predecessor. Because of more display real estate, the fingerprint scanner will be housed at the back of the smartphone, and the OnePlus 5 will be 7mm thin as well, slightly slimmer than the predecessor.

The report also states that the OnePlus 5 will sport a 5.5-inch 2K display (1080x2048 pixels), and the camera will sport a 23-megapixel sensor at the back. Furthermore, the camera will support features like optical image stabilisation, zoom, and fast flash.

Previous reports indicate that the OnePlus 5 will sport a dual-edge screen and a 16-megapixel selfie camera. The Chinese company is also widely expected to bump the storage on the next flagship to 256GB. Another detail says that the OnePlus 5 may come with a ceramic body mimicking the Xiaomi Mi MIX. The OnePlus 5 is expected to arrive in the second half of 2017, and pricing details are unknown at the moment - though the company would look to continue its trend of offering top-end specs at mid-range prices.

OnePlus recently courted trouble with Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) on its latest Amitabh Bachchan starring ad, which Sony argues is modelled after its KBC IP. The company has got a stay order from Delhi HC over SPN's claims of copyright infringement.
