  • The phone is expected to start at GBP 100 more in the UK
  • This will also result in a comparative price rise in other markets
  • Price hike could be related to hardware upgrades

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are expected to be the most expensive smartphones yet in the Galaxy S range, but there was no word so far on a rough price bracket for the global market. However, a new report has shed light on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ prices, suggesting a notable difference over their respective predecessors. The two Galaxy S9 models will join the Samsung portfolio at an event on February 25 in Barcelona, just ahead of Mobile World Congress 2018.

Samsung Galaxy S9 price

A report by TechRadar cites sources in the UK mobile phone deals industry regarding the pricing of the upcoming Galaxy S9 duo. The report claims that the two phones will be GBP 100 more expensive than last year's model. It says Galaxy S9 might start at a price of GBP 789 (roughly Rs. 70,700) in the UK, and, presumably, $850 (roughly Rs. 54,500) in the US. Likewise, the Galaxy S9+ might come in at a starting price of $950 (roughly Rs. 60,900) in the US. This price hike, while not confirmed, could be the result of an anticipated major camera upgrade or even due to Apple's new pricing strategy with the $999 (roughly Rs. 64,100) iPhone X.

While no reports for pricing in the Indian market have emerged yet, the Galaxy S9 is expected to have a starting price of more than Rs. 65,000 (compared to the Galaxy S8's launch MOP of Rs. 57,900). Similarly, the Galaxy S9+ price might start at Rs. 70,000 (compared to the launch MOP of Rs. 64,900).

Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ Price, Specifications: Rumour Round-Up

Previously, several reports had suggested a price hike in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 series smartphones. We can expect Samsung to justify the steep price hike, if there indeed is one, at the MWC 2018 event.

To recap, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC in the US and China, and a Samsung Exynos 9810 SoC in other international markets (including India). The Galaxy S9 might sport 4GB of RAM, and the Galaxy S9+ might bear 6GB. Apart from that, we can expect an upgraded camera experience and a new vertical placement of the fingerprint sensor. The smartphones are expected to largely retain the design introduced to the series last year, with only a few minor changes.
