Xiaomi has teased its next-generation Xring O3 chipset as reports point to a new wide-format foldable phone in development. The processor is expected to power Xiaomi's upcoming flagship foldable, which has been linked to several names, including the Mix Fold 5 and Mix Ultra. Separately, a new image of Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun holding a burgundy-coloured foldable phone has surfaced online. The handset is yet to be officially identified, but its design has fuelled speculation about Xiaomi's next foldable launch.

Xiaomi Teases Xring O3 Ahead of Reported Mix Fold 5 Launch

Xiaomi teased its new Xring O3 processor on Weibo, amid reports that the chip will debut in its upcoming flagship foldable. The processor is reportedly codenamed Lhasa and could use TSMC's 3nm N3P process. Xiaomi is also expected to skip the Xring O2 branding and position the O3 as the successor to the Xring O1.

The new chip could use three groups of CPU cores, with reports pointing to either a 1+3+4 or 1+2+5 arrangement. The prime core is tipped to reach 4.05GHz, while the Titanium performance and efficiency cores could clock at up to 3.42GHz and 3.02GHz, respectively. The GPU may reach 1.5GHz, up from around 1.2GHz on the Xring O1, while memory speeds could remain at 9,600MT/s.

According to an ITHome report, the Douyin account @RunningNewEnergyExpert recently posted an image of Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun holding a burgundy-coloured foldable phone. Xiaomi has not confirmed the handset, which appears to use a colour not seen on its existing foldable models. The account is reportedly associated with TELD, a TGOOD subsidiary that partnered with Xiaomi Auto in 2025 to provide charging services.

Meanwhile, tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) recently claimed that Xiaomi could bring back a transparent version of the upcoming foldable. Xiaomi previously used a transparent rear panel on the Xiaomi 8 Transparent Explorer Edition, launched in 2018, which revealed several internal components.

The handset is expected to be Xiaomi's first wide-format foldable, with a larger, squarer inner display than earlier Mix Fold models. A similar device was spotted in HyperOS 4 beta promotional material, featuring rounded corners and a camera in the upper-right corner. Earlier leaks have called it the Mix Fold 5, Xiaomi 17 Fold, Xiaomi 18 Fold and Mix Ultra, but its official name is still unknown.

Leaked specifications suggest Xiaomi's wide foldable could feature a 7.76-inch inner display with a 2713x1920 resolution and a 6.56-inch outer display. Both screens are expected to support LTPO technology and adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz. Its camera system is tipped to include a 200-megapixel Leica main sensor alongside two telephoto cameras. The foldable could also pack a 6,000mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. It may also feature Xiaomi's sixth-generation self-developed seamless waterdrop hinge and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The Mix Fold 5, also rumoured as the Mix Ultra, is expected to launch in September 2026. Xiaomi has yet to confirm the phone or its launch date, and it could debut around Apple's first foldable iPhone.
