Twitpic, a third-party Twitter client for uploading photos on Twitter, confirmed that it will be shutting down the service on October 25.

The company on Thursday announced the service's demise via Twitter, and in a blog post.

Twitpic's founder Noah Everett in the blog post noted that the company couldn't meet "agreeable terms" with potential buyers.

Everett said, "It's with a heavy heart that I announce again that Twitpic will be shutting down on October 25th. We worked through a handful of potential acquirers and exhausted all potential options. We were almost certain we had found a new home for Twitpic (hence our previous tweet), but agreeable terms could not be met. Normally we wouldn't announce something like that prematurely but we were hoping to let our users know as soon as possible that Twitpic was living on."

"I'm sincerely sorry (and embarrassed) for the circumstances leading up to this, from our initial shutdown announcement to an acquisition false alarm," he added.

Twitpic users have been advised to export all data and photos from the service by October 25.

In early September, Everett had announced that Twitpic would be shutting down on September 25, and blamed Twitter's strong arm tactics over the service's name for the closure. He'd published a blog explaining how he does not have enough resources to tackle the famous micro-blogging website, resulting in the services' shut down.

Twitpic filed its trademark in 2009. However, the service was contacted by Twitter when the trademark came under "published for opposition" phase. Everett had claimed that Twitter threatened Twitpic that it would be "denied access to [the Twitter] API," if it does not back off their mark.

Roughly a week ahead of the September 25 shutdown, Everett had claimed that Twitpic was being acquired and it will not be shut down as announced. The company had not disclosed any details about the acquisition, but had said, "We're happy to announce we've been acquired and Twitpic will live on! We will post more details as we can disclose them."
