Highlights
  • BSNL has reportedly upgraded its Rs. 4,999 FTTH plan in Chennai
  • The upgraded plan offers 1500GB of FUP limit and 100Mbps of speed
  • The telco has also revised its other FTTH plans

Making competitor tougher for Jio Fiber and other broadband operators, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has upgraded its Rs. 4,999 Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) plan in Chennai with an FUP limit of 1500GB. The plan comes with a 100Mbps speed that will be decreased to 2Mbps once subscribers reach the FUP limit. The state-run telco has 100G optical transport network to deliver an ultra-fast broadband experience in select circles, and its FTTH services are already competing against the offerings delivered by ACT Fibernet and Spectra. Earlier this month, it was spotted that Reliance Jio-owned Jio Fiber started offering an "initial plan" with 1.1TB of data limit to its users. Jio Fiber FTTH services are currently in testing in select markets, including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jamnagar, Mumbai, and New Delhi among others, with a commercial launch set for later this year.

Alongside the whopping FUP limit, the refreshed Rs. 4,999 FTTH plan by BSNL offers one email ID access along with 5MB of free space and one free static IP address, reports TelecomTalk. The plan is also reportedly offering free voice calls within the BSNL network.

Subscribers who are already using a BSNL FTTH plan, ranging from Rs. 999 to Rs. 2,999, can upgrade to the Rs. 4,999 plan by reaching out to their nearby customer care centre or calling the BSNL helpline.

It is also reported that in addition to the Rs. 4,999 plan, BSNL has revised its other FTTH plans with higher FUP limit than before. With this change, the Rs. 999 FTTH plan is now offering 250GB of FUP limit at 60Mbps speed, while subscribers with the Rs. 1,299, Rs. 1,699, Rs. 1,999, Rs. 2,999 can avail up to 80Mbps of download and upload speeds. The Rs. 1,299 plan also comes with 400GB of FUP limit, whereas the Rs. 1,699 plan has 550GB FUP, Rs. 1,999 plan has 800GB FUP, and Rs. 2,999 plan has 900GB FUP. All these plans additionally include unlimited local and STD voice calling benefits to any network. Moreover, BSNL is offering free installation for a limited period.
