Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) held its 48th annual general meeting (AGM) on Friday. Amid major announcements such as the announcement of the Jio IPO and Jio Frames smartglasses, the company also unveiled the creation of an unexpected joint venture (JV) with Meta. With this JV, RIL and Meta are collaborating on the artificial intelligence (AI) front, and will together develop enterprise solutions across a wide range of industries.

Reliance and Meta Create a Joint Venture

During the AGM, the two companies formally announced the creation of an unnamed joint venture that will build and scale enterprise AI solutions for India and international markets. Under the agreement, RIL and Meta have jointly committed to an initial investment of $100 million (roughly Rs. 855 crore) in the ratio of 70 percent and 30 percent, respectively.

The JV's AI solutions will be powered by Meta's open-source Llama models and offer AI Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) as well as a suite of pre-configured AI solutions for both cross-functional and industry-specific use cases. The former will be a full-stack environment that enterprises can use to customise, deploy, and govern generative AI models across sales and
marketing, information technology development and operations, customer service, finance,
and a wide range of other enterprise workflows.

Alongside Meta's AI stack, the JV will also make use of RIL's digital infrastructure to deliver “enterprise-grade AI at affordable price points for Indian enterprises and SMBs.” The unique selling point (USP) of the products will be high performance at a low cost of ownership. The solutions will also offer enterprises the flexibility of deployment over the cloud, on-premise, and across their infrastructure.

Notably, RIL stated that the closing of the transaction for the JV is expected in the fourth quarter of the ongoing year, and is subject to regulatory approvals.

“We're excited to deepen our partnership with Reliance to bring the power of open‑source AI to Indian developers and enterprises. Through this joint venture, we're putting Meta's Llama models into real-world use, and I'm looking forward to Meta expanding its footprint in the enterprise space as we unlock new possibilities together,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Meta.
