Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, and Gear S Get New Traffic Apps

Samsung, together with Inrix, a data analytics firm, has announced three exclusive new apps and a home screen widget for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and the Gear S Tizen-based smartwatch that would provide traffic and travel time information to users.

The ongoing Samsung Developer Conference 2014 event in San Francisco (via PC Mag) saw the three new apps being announced, specifically, Car Mode, Morning!, and Inrix XD Traffic. The first two are for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, while the last is for the Gear S. Notably, the firm also Inrix also revealed the My Places widget for the two smartphones.

Car Mode is said to make the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge driver-friendly, featuring larger user interface for easy viewing and also provides route updates to the Samsung user. The app additionally keeps a check on traffic, alerts users for any accidents on the selected route, offers information on closest private parking, and any inexpensive petrol pump nearby.

Morning! is also a smartphone app for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge that provides travel information to users along with a wakeup alarm functionality. The new My Places widget for Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge offers users consolidated travel information including best route, estimated time and more.

As for the Samsung Gear S smartwatch, the South Korean tech giant and Inrix announced the Inrix XD Traffic app that gives alerts to users about when to leave in order to reach a destination at a pre-selected time.

Inrix's Vice President of Marketing, Jon Maron, at the event stated, "By connecting drivers through collaborations with partners and customers like Samsung, we're not only making navigation easier for Samsung device owners but creating a network effect that makes our roads work smarter for all drivers."

At the keynote address of the Samsung Developer Conference 2014 on Wednesday, the South Korean firm also announced a new feature named Flow - that lets users move videos, calls, notifications and more from one Samsung device to another Samsung device seamlessly. The feature is similar to Apple's Continuity for iOS and OS X Yosemite.
