A couple of weeks after announcing Skype 5.6 with optimisation for all iPhone screen sizes, Microsoft on Thursday rolled out the v5.7 update to the Skype for iPhone app, adding some much-needed features.

Skype 5.7 for iPhone now comes with the ability to save or delete images shared during a chat. Users can simply tap and hold on the image for saving or deleting the image.

As for the chat threads, Microsoft claims the new version of Skype for iPhone loads chats much faster when opening a notification from the handset's notification centre.

Besides giving them the ability to view avatars for groups and other people, Skype 5.7 for iPhone also makes it easier for users to search their people list, with new filter options. Microsoft detailed the updated Skype 5.7 for iPhone on a Skype blog post, and asked users to submit ideas for further improvements.

Microsoft in its last two updates for Skype for iPhone has focused on optimisation for screen sizes and iOS 8. Version 5.6 came with optimised and scaled UI for the recently launched 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, and touted support from the iPhone 4 upwards.

Version 5.5 of Skype for iPhone made use of iOS 8's interactive notification system and enabled users to answer/decline voice or video calls or access text conversations directly from the lock screen and notification centre. Options to choose whether to answer the calls via video or voice, or to return the call, or reply in text for missed calls, were also included.
