  • The app will be delisted from app stores within a few days.
  • The team said the app will stop working all together from August 31.
  • The Sunrise team said it has to focus on Outlook integrations instead.

As announced back in October last year, Sunrise's popular calendar app is being discontinued. Bought by Microsoft in early 2015, the Sunrise team has been working with the Outlook team ever since to help integrate its features into Microsoft's email service.

The Sunrise made the announcement in a blog post on Wednesday, stating the app will disappear from app stores in the next few days, and that the app will be officially shut down on August 31. The app will stop working altogether, the company added.

Explaining the decision in the post, the team said, "The entire Sunrise team is now working side-by-side with the Outlook team and it's a thrilling moment for us to work on an app of this scale. Unfortunately, as all good stories go, there's a sad bit to it: we're not able to support and update Sunrise anymore. No new features. No bug fixes. For us, that's the definition of a lousy app and it's not a user experience we want to leave you with."

The team went on to say it was working on the further integrations of Sunrise features into Outlook, features now long promised such as the Interesting Calendar and Connected Apps. To recall, the Sunrise team was credited for bringing Evernote, Facebook, and Wunderlist calendar integrations to Outlook in April this year.

Microsoft began its revamp of its Outlook mail app in late 2014, when it bought Acompli and essentially brought an Outlook-branded version of the app out within a couple of months.
