  • The recall feature will let tyou delete a message till up to five minutes
  • It is also testing to bring the new Status feature on WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp has been testing the Recall feature since the start of the year, but it hasn’t been enabled in the stable version yet. The feature allows you to recall your sent message from a chat till up to five minutes. Now, a fresh leak suggests that the Recall feature is imminent to arrive, and may come as soon as WhatsApp v2.17.30+ for iPhone.

Just what does the 'recall' feature mean for the user? Well, several other chat applications already provide a feature that allows you to recall or revoke a message that has yet to be seen by the recipient - something that would be displayed as a single tick in WhatsApp. Some, allow you to to delete the message on both your phone and the recipient's phone, regardless of whether the message has already been seen. An edit message feature is also often available. In its current form, WhatsApp doesn't allow users to edit, delete. or recall messages sent to the recipient.

Tipster WABetaInfo has tweeted that the Recall feature will be remotely enabled in version 2.17.30+. However, WhatsApp has already rolled out version 2.17.30 for iOS, and the feature does not seem to have been added. WABetaInfo adds that it isn't certain when WhatsApp will enable the feature, but it would be with version 2.17.30 or higher. The tipster wrote, “This does not exclude that it will be enabled in a future update (so I wrote "+"). The .30 update is perfect to see enabled it.”

Furthermore, the tipster also claims that the Contacts tab that was removed from iOS ever since the Status feature was introduced may be slated for a comeback. WABetaInfo suggests that the Contact section will show up under the Status section, and WhatsApp is currently in the phase of testing it. There is no tangible timeline as to when this will roll out though.

The same tipster also suggests that the newly introduced Status feature is set to arrive on WhatsApp Web as well. The tipster shared screenshots of the feature in testing, and claims that you will be able to see, and even reply to them just as it is on the app.

WhatsApp has been working on a number of features, and thanks to WABetaInfo, we get to be excited about them even before they arrive. Some other new features in the pipeline include the ‘Change Number’ feature that will notify your friends and family about your number change for you, without the need to lose chats or send a broadcast. Separately, it is also working on bringing the Live Location sharing feature, that was recently introduced by both Facebook and Google, to the chat platform as well.
