  • Sony has confirmed it has sold to customers 50 million PS4s
  • It says this year's Black Friday week was its best
  • With a strong 2017 line-up it shows few signs of slowing down

The PS4 seems to be breaking sales records through and through. Buoyed by a strong software line up and the launches of the PS VR and PS4 Pro, Sony have sold 50 million PS4s.“Sony: have sold 50 million units of PlayStation 4 as of Dec. 6. The past Black Friday week was the best period ever for the console,” tweeted The Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki.

He clarified in a later tweet that this was indeed consoles sold directly to consumers and not those present on the store shelves. And yes, this also includes the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim sales as well.

This should come as no surprise considering how well the console has been selling worldwide. The company has taken an aggressive stance in markets like the UAE and India, making bundles available that were previously not brought in such as the PS4 with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare or Watch Dogs 2.

And while India has no release date for the PS VR or PS4 Pro, it appears that parallel importers are having problems meeting supply of the both devices. Sources at retail speaking to Gadgets 360 have confirmed that both the PS VR and PS4 Pro sell out the moment they’ve been made available. Not too shabby considering Sony has not announced them for India just yet.

With the likes of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and The Last of Us Part II unveiled at PlayStation Experience, it seems that Sony’s dominance with the PS4 has no signs of abating.

Total PlayStation 4 software sales have surpassed 369.6 million copies sold in retail stores globally and through digital downloads on the PlayStation Store as of December 4.

“We’re truly delighted that the PS4 community continues to flourish since launch three years ago.” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “With tremendous support from our fans and partners across the globe, this year we were able to deliver an unprecedented lineup of hardware such as the new slimmer PS4, PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR. We will continue to provide the best gaming experiences available through our ground-breaking software lineup and network services, as we focus on accelerating our business and expanding the PS4 ecosystem.”
