Video streaming service Netflix Inc will beef up its original programming menu through a new, multi-year deal with DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc, the maker of movies such as Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda.

DreamWorks is looking to expand its television production and distribution worldwide through this deal that has 300 hours of new programming.

The agreement, Netflix's largest for original programming, is also the first time DreamWorks characters will be shown on television as a branded collection of shows, the companies said in a statement.

Netflix is trying to gain new subscribers with a handful of original series including Kevin Spacey drama "House of Cards", which generated plenty of attention just as more viewers turn to Internet video downloading.

The company brought back cult television comedy "Arrested Development" in May, allowing viewers to see the entire 15-episode season together, harnessing the trend of viewers 'binge-watching' TV series online and through DVDs.

The first of the new series announced on Monday is expected to air in 2014 and Netflix will premiere these new shows in all the territories in which it operates.

The two companies in February said a series called "Turbo: F.A.S.T," based on the upcoming DreamWorks film "Turbo," will debut exclusively on Netflix in December.
