While the Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout is still incomplete for the majority of handsets, a new report indicates that the Mountain View-based firm might be readying Android 5.1 and will introduce it early next year. The purported changelog of Android 5.1 has also been leaked.

Two separate sources from Google have reportedly confirmed to AndroidPit (via CNET) that Google will introduce Android 5.1 Lollipop early next year, and might roll it out to eligible handsets by the end of February. Google however declined to comment on the matter when approached.

Android 5.1 is said to retain the Lollipop moniker, and come as a incremental bug fixing update. As per the tipped changelog, Android 5.1 Lollipop brings in missing features such as silent mode, apart from a number of improvements and fixes for system availability, RAM, battery management, excessive consumption of network devices used Wi-Fi, wireless connection issue, OK Google issue, and other minor changes and bug fixes. The update is also said to include changes in Google's Material Design colour palette.

Notably, Google earlier this week released the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop factory image for the Nexus 5 smartphone, following a similar release for other Nexus models earlier.

Also, a number of handsets from leading smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, HTC and others, are yet to rollout Android 5.0 Lollipop to their handsets. Sony stated on Wednesday that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be reaching the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 handset series at the start of 2015.
