Apple's trade-in program for third-party adapters is now live in India.

Under Apple's USB Power Adapter Takeback Program, eligible iPhone, iPad, and iPod customers can turn in their third-party chargers and take home a genuine Apple USB power adapter at a discounted price. To qualify, customers must turn in at least one USB power adapter and bring their iPhone, iPad, or iPod to an Apple Authorised Service Provider for serial number validation. Customers can then buy the Apple US power adapter for Rs. 839, approximately half it usual cost. The special pricing on Apple USB power adapters is limited to one adapter for each iPhone, iPad, and iPod and is valid until October 18, 2013.

Apple launched the USB Power Adapter Takeback Program back in August in what was seen as an attempt to address some people's concerns about the legitimacy of their Apple devices' chargers. The move came shortly after a woman in China died after being electrocuted while using her iPhone. Reports later emerged that the woman may have been using a fake charger with her iPhone.

The program was first launched in select countries and gradually extended to other regions. India is amongst the latest batch of countries added to the program and the move was first noted by @quickdraw_46. Customers can turn in a USB power adapter of any brand, including unbranded ones, by visiting one of the participating locations. If you are worried about your Apple USB power adapter being a fake, Apple has setup a page that lets you verify its authenticity.
