HTC's new mid-range smartphone, the Desire 316, spotted earlier in March on a Chinese website, has been made official by the Taiwanese firm. The Desire 316 for now has only been launched in China, and is seen on HTC's China website. No details about global availability have yet been revealed.

The HTC China website states the Desire 316 smartphone runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS out of the box. The mid-range handset also features a 5-inch qHD (540x960 pixels) display.

The HTC Desire 316 sports an unspecified quad-core 1.2GHz processor under-the-hood paired with 512MB RAM. It bears a 5-megapixel CMOS rear camera, alongside a VGA (0.3-megapixel) front-facing camera.

The storage options that come with the HTC Desire 316 are 4GB of inbuilt ROM, which is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. The smartphone's connectivity options are not fully mentioned on the website for now. However, it has been understood that the Desire 316 would at least include GPRS/EDGE, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n wireless connectivity.

The smartphone is backed by a 1950mAh battery, measures 140 x 72 x 9.7mm and weighs 160 grams (with battery). The HTC Desire 316 is listed in Black and White variants.

HTC also recently launched the Desire 310 in India. The HTC Desire 310 runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box and notably features BlinkFeed, Video Highlights and Offline Reading mode. The dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) smartphone also features a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of FWVGA (480x854 pixels) resolution.

The HTC Desire 310 is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582M chipset, coupled with 512MB of RAM. It includes 4GB of built-in storage, which is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. It sports a 5-megapixel rear camera (with full-HD video recording), while there is a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

The HTC Desire 316 was previously said to be a variant of the rumoured Desire 516 smartphone. Previous reports indicate the HTC Desire 516 will come in two variants - Desire 516t and Desire 516w.

Moreover, the link of HTC's China website goes in line with the previous leak that indicates the Desire 316 to be a single-SIM variant of the Desire 516w variant.

The Desire 516t is said to sport the same camera features. However, the smartphone is rumoured to run on a quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek processor under-the-hood paired with 512MB RAM.
