While Apple is busy improving the supply of the iPhone X, a new report by DisplayMate has emerged that praises the display technology of the new iPhone model. The display calibration and testing firm claims that the OLED-based Super Retina display of the iPhone X is the "most colour accurate" display.

The report developed by DisplayMate President Dr. Raymond M. Soneira highlights that the iPhone X' display has "close to textbook perfect calibration and performance" through a built-in automatic colour management system. The proprietary system switches to a relevant colour gamut on the basis of the image displayed within the Wide DCI-P3 Colour Space that has an ICC Profile. This process helps in rendering correct colours, neither over-saturated nor under-saturated, the report highlights.

Apple has provided a taller height-to-width aspect ratio of 19.5:9 on the iPhone X. This is 22 percent larger than the traditional 16:9 ratio that can be found on most smartphones and widescreen TVs. DisplayMate notes that the taller aspect ratio enables additional space for notifications and for providing multitasking experience by showing multiple apps and content simultaneously. Also, the notch, which holds the components enabling Face ID on the new iPhone, is reported to have a negligible presence on the front, taking up to two percent of the total screen area.

DisplayMate states that the full-HD+ display of the iPhone X has 32 percent higher pixel count than a conventional HDTV, with 1125x2436 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 458 pixels per inch (ppi). Furthermore, the new model has a diamond sub-pixel layout that puts the individual red, green, and blue subpixels in a 45-degree tilted diamond layout -- identical to what debuted on Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 earlier this year.

Alongside better colour management, the display of the iPhone X is reported to have the highest brightness for OLED smartphones at 634 nits. This is higher than the 560-nit brightness of the Galaxy Note 8. Similarly, the latest iPhone flagship has a Super Dim Setting that can drop down the display brightness to as down as two nits. All this means that the content on the iPhone X is readable under bright sunlight as well as in a dark room.

The image contrast of the iPhone X is found to be "slightly too high". However, the viewing-angle performance of its display is considered to be better than any mobile display, monitor, TV and UHD TV that are available today. The OLED panel on the iPhone X displays 22 percent decrease in brightness than traditional OLEDs at 30 degrees.

In terms of the glass protecting the display panel, DisplayMate reports that the cover glass is 50 percent stronger compared to the protection available on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The latest report comes following the series of teardowns and endurance tests of the iPhone X. Apple also recently released a video tour to explain the best of its new iPhone model.
