Japanese electronics firm Kyocera has launched a new smartphone called DuraForce Pro. The smartphone will be available in US in the coming months, but the price and exact availability details is not yet known. Telecom operator AT&T has announced that it will carry the smartphone, and make it available this fall.
The biggest highlight of the smartphone is that it is super rugged. The phone comes with MIL-STD-810G rating that certifies it as dust-proof, drop-proof, shock-proof. It also protects the phone against vibrations, temperature extremes, blowing rain, low pressure, solar radiation, salt fog, humidity, immersion, temperature shock, and icing/freezing rain. It also has IP68 certification which in terms of water resistance means that it can survive immersion in up to 2 metres of water for 30 minutes. The DuraForce Pro also sports a Super Wide View Action Camera that boasts of a 135-degree lens.
As for the specifications, the Kyocera DuraForce Pro runs on Android 6.0 Marhsmallow and features a 5-inch full HD (1080x1920 pixels) display. It is powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon 617 octa-core SoC that's paired with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone offers 32GB of inbuilt storage, with the option to expand via microSD card (up to 256GB).
Optics include a 13-megapixel rear camera with the above-mentioned Wide View HD Action Camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The Kyocera DuraForce Pro packs a 3240mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi with 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/r/k, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Miracast and USB 2.0
It also sports a fingerprint sensor at the front, and supports glove and wet touchscreen operation. This allows users to operate the smartphone with gloves or wet hands easily. Interestingly, Kyocera is offering 2-years manufacturer warranty with the DuraForce Pro smartphone
