Following Samsung, consumer electronics giants LG and Sony appear to be the latest handset manufacturers to slash prices of some of their smartphones in India.

According to an established Mumbai-based retailer, Mahesh Telecom, various LG and Sony smartphones have received price significant cuts in India, though neither company has made official announcements.

LG's 2014 flagship smartphone, the LG G3, has reportedly received a price cut of Rs. 5,000 in India. The LG G3 was launched in India in 2 variants - 16GB with 2GB of RAM at Rs. 47,990 and 32GB with 3GB of RAM at Rs. 50,990. The retailer adds the new prices are effective Wednesday.

Other LG smartphones that reportedly received price cuts include LG L60 Dual with a new price of Rs. 7,300 (earlier price of Rs. 9,000); LG L70 Dual with a new price of Rs. 10,499 (launched at Rs. 15,000), and the LG F70 with a new price of Rs. 13,499 (launched at Rs. 18,499).

Considering that the source is an offline retailer, we can expect that the new prices are currently only applicable for physical stores. Notably, LG's India site is still showing the old prices for all 4 phones.

Sony, on the other hand, ahead of its Thursday launch event where it is expected to launch Xperia Z3 family of devices in India, has reportedly reduced the price of the Xperia Z2. As per the retailer, the Xperia Z2 that launched in India at Rs. 49,990 will be retailing with a massive price cut of Rs. 10,000 at Rs. 39,999.

Not too long ago, Samsung India, due to competition with Google's Android One phones, officially slashed the price of the Galaxy Core 2 by roughly 33 percent to Rs. 8,007 from Rs. 11,990, and the price of Galaxy S Duos 3 was slashed to Rs. 7,497 from an earlier price tag of Rs. 8,150.
