Seems like Microsoft's much awaited update to its smartphone OS, Windows Phone 8.1, is nearly complete, and will hit the devices in the month of April. The firm has reportedly sent confidential invitations to select developers for a preview and initial feedback on the operating system's software development kit (SDK).

The Redmond-based firm is said to have sent a limited number of invitations to developers for testing the new Windows Phone 8.1. These developers are said to have signed a NDA (non-disclosure agreement).

The NDA will prevent the developers from revealing what Microsoft has in store for the users regarding its Windows Phone OS 8.1 and will also stop them from disclosing their participation in the process, according to WP Central.

Since the preview is reportedly out and available to developers, Windows Phone 8.1 is likely to be unveiled at 2 April, which is when the Microsoft Build Developers Conference kicks off.

On Monday, we reported leaks that were doing the rounds of the Internet, purportedly showing off the alleged new notification centre of Windows Phone 8.1. Also known as the Action Centre, it was leaked in some screenshots along with some features.

The proposed Action Centre, set to arrive in the Windows Phone 8.1, appears the same way on the screen as the notification windows in Android - swipe down from top of the screen. Four buttons are seen when the menu drops down - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, airplane and driving mode along with a battery percentage and date.

The Cortana voice-assistant is also said to come along with Windows Phone 8.1, and is expected to feature Foursquare, Bing, and other data sources.
