Huawei might be working with Google for the next Nexus smartphone; though, this doesn't appear to have stopped the Chinese handset company to work on its own OS. Reports from China claim that Huawei has been working on its own OS now for at least three years. Additionally, more details about Huawei-made Nexus have made it to the Internet.

The move to develop its own OS might be Huawei's way to be free from dependence on Google's Android OS. Gizmochina reports that as per sources with knowledge of the matter that Huawei is working on a new smartphone that will feature a "self-developed mobile OS." It further adds that the Huawei OS will work with the company's own chip, the Kirin SoC. Details about the OS are limited as of now; though more information can be expected to be revealed soon.

Many handset OEMs including Samsung (with its Tizen OS) have tried their hands on moving away from Google's Android ecosystem but commercially haven't seen much success.

In other news, new details about the Huawei-made Nexus smartphone have surfaced online tipping that the new Nexus smartphone will be based on Huawei's Ascend Mate 8 phablet. A recent leaked roadmap had suggested that the Huawei Ascend Mate 8 will launch in June and will reportedly feature a 6-inch QHD display, Kirin SoC, and 16-megapixel rear camera with OIS. This is in line with an earlier report, which had tipped the next Nexus smartphone to sport the Kirin 930 octa-core processor, last seen in the Huawei MediaPad M2 tablet.

According to the latest report, the Nexus smartphone will feature metal build and will sport a 5.7-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) display, which of course will be smaller than the Motorola Google Nexus 6 featuring a 5.96-inch QHD display. In line with a previous report, the Chinese reports suggest that the next Nexus smartphone might pack the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset.

Readers should remember that all these leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt as Huawei has not mentioned anything about the upcoming device and the legitimacy of the leaks remains questionable.
