After the initial leak last week, more pictures of the purported iPhone 5S prototype have surfaced online, suggesting that the phone will be powered by a new A7 processor.

While the pictures of the phone's interior, that appeared online, last week did not offer too many details about the phone's main chip, except that it did not sport an A-series label like chips on the previous iPhones, the new pictures that have been received by MacRumours indicate that it sports an Apple model number of APL0698 which implies that it could be an A7 chip instead of a new variant of the A6 chip which powers the iPhone 5.

According to the website, the logic behind this is Apple's naming convention pattern. The A6 chip is associated with model number APL0598, while the A6X chip that powers the fourth-generation iPad sports the APL5598 model number. So it looks like Apple changes the second digit of the model number when it introduces a new processor family while it changes the first digit when the chip is just a variant of the same processor.

Apart from the processor, the DRAM's date code indicates that it was manufactured in September 2012 and the site claims that the iPhone 5S prototype in the picture was assembled in December 2012. The DRAM is the same 1GB as it is in the iPhone 5's A6 chip.

Also, the identifier of the chip - K1A0062, is different from previous models that were made by Samsung and mostly started with the letter 'N'. This could possibly mean that the chip has not been made by Samsung, as suggested by previous rumours. But recent rumours have also indicated that TMSC will start making a new chip for Apple with the A8 series, so the A7 chip might not be made by the Taiwanese chip maker.

The pill shaped LED flash at the back of the phone shows two different coloured flash lights. It was earlier suggested that Apple could use a smart flash offering different light settings for different light conditions for more natural pictures.

The pictures that appeared last week indicated that the phone's battery sports a recent Apple Part Number and has a higher capacity of 5.92WHr, compared to the 5.45WHr capacity of the iPhone 5's battery. The regulatory certification labels are not present on the battery.
