Earlier this month Samsung unveiled the successor to its Galaxy S II smartphone but did not share the pricing and availability details then. The Galaxy S II Plus has now officially been launched in Taiwan for NT$13,900 translating to about $475 or 352 euros.

Unwired View reports via Chinese online portal VR Zone that Taiwan is the first country to get the smartphone and beginning this month the device is apparently available only in Dark Blue colour option and the Chic White variant expected to come in February 2013.

Running on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with Nature UX atop, the Galaxy S II Plus sports a 4.3-inch WVGA (480x800) Super AMOLED Plus display as seen in the earlier Galaxy S II. Look wise, the exterior of the device has been replaced with the plasticky back panel as seen on the Galaxy S III.

The device features an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and capable of full-HD video recording. There's a 2-megapixel front camera as well.

On the inside, the smartphone is powered by a dual-core Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, a Broadcomm GPU and has 1GB RAM. The internal storage has been skimmed down to 8GB but microSD support up to 64GB will be available.

Connectivity wise, the Galaxy S II Plus boasts dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0+HS and 3G with 21Mbps HSPA+. NFC is optional on the device. The Galaxy S II Plus without NFC is 8.5mm thick while the NFC-enabled I9105P is slightly thicker at 8.9mm. The device also weighs 5 grams more than its predecessor at 121gms. Battery capacity, however, remains the same at 1,650mAh.

The Galaxy S II Plus comes loaded with company's proprietary apps like ChatOn messenger, AllShare Play, Smart Stay, Smart Alert, Popup Video, S-Voice and S Beam. Users can also enjoy all the benefits of Samsung Hubs, including the latest versions of Readers Hub, Video Hub, Game Hub and Music Hub.

The Korean manufacturer has also launched the Xcover 2, which was expected to make a debut at the Mobile World Congress next month. Being touted as an "endurable smartphone", the pricing and availability details are yet to be made official.

Samsung is expected to showcase an array of smartphones and tablets this year. Keep watching this space as we bring you the latest details from the Samsung stable.
