India to Enforce BIS Registration Rules for Smartphone Screen Protectors From April 2027

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology made the change through an amendment notified on September 21. It also identifies IS 19348:2025, titled “Glass Screen Protector — Specification”, as the Indian Standard that will apply to the category.

The amended provisions will apply to smartphone screen protectors from April 1, 2027. This means products covered by the new entry will need to meet the specified standard once the requirement takes effect.

IS 19348:2025 specifies requirements for glass screen protectors, including aspects such as glass quality, dimensions and strength. The standard also covers adhesives, anti-shatter films, oleophobic and anti-glare coatings, blue-light filtering and privacy layers.
