Sony launched its new mid-range smartphone, the Xperia M2, at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, alongside the company's flagship Xperia Z2 smartphone and the Xperia Z2 Tablet. The Japanese giant, however, had not revealed the pricing details of the Xperia M2 at the launch.

Now, a Dutch publication named GSM Info has claimed that the Xperia M2 will be hitting global markets in April with an MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) of EUR 289, translating to roughly Rs. 24,600.

Contradicting the Dutch publication's price, Sony at the launch had revealed that the Xperia M2, which the company called as 'the slimmest 4G-enabled smartphone in its class' at a rather thick 8.6mm, would be priced under EUR 220 MSRP (roughly Rs. 18,800).

In February, the Sony Xperia Z2 went up for pre-order with pricing in several European nations. The Xperia Z2 was priced in different countries in a range between roughly Rs. 55,000 to Rs. 62,000.

On the other hand, the Xperia Z2 Tablet went up for pre-order with official pricing in Europe. The Sony UK website put up for pre-order the Xperia Z2 Tablet's LTE 16GB version, Wi-Fi only 16GB version and Wi-Fi only 32GB version for GBP 499 (Rs. 51,000 approximately), GBP 399 (Rs. 41,000 approximately) and GBP 449 (Rs. 46,000 approximately) respectively. No availability was detailed.

For those unaware, the Sony Xperia M2 will also be available in a dual-SIM variant, called Xperia M2 dual, with identical specifications. The smartphone features a 4.8-inch qHD (540x960 pixels) display, and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor (MSM8926 for 4G LTE, MSM8226 for 3G) coupled with an Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The Xperia M2 comes with 8GB of built-in storage, with microSD card expansion up to 32GB. The 8-megapixel camera on the Xperia M2 has 'auto scene' recognition and HDR. Camera apps such as Social live, Timeshift burst and Picture Effect are other camera features being touted by Sony.

The Sony Xperia M2 packs a 2300mAh battery that is rated to deliver talktime up to 14 hours, standby time up to 693 hours, and is available in three colours - Black, White and Purple.
