Tizen, the Linux-based open source operating system being developed by Samsung, Intel and others, is said to soon bring support for low-end smartphones in a new iteration, claims a report.

As per The Handheld Blog, Tizen Mobile Lite will bring support for smartphones with lower specifications, which will need just 256MB of RAM. Further, the report suggests that Tizen Mobile Lite will need a 512MB of ROM, and would also support HVGA and QVGA screen resolutions, while Tizen's current minimum requirement for smartphones is 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM and at least HD and WVGA resolution.

The latest move by Tizen can be considered an attempt to boost its new platform against the likes of Google's Android, as the search engine giant recently announced that the latest Android 4.4 KitKat iteration has been designed to run fast, smooth, and responsively not only on high-end devices, but also on entry-level phones with as little as 512MB of RAM.

Recently, the much-anticipated first Tizen smartphone from Samsung, thought to be called the Redwood Z9005, was purportedly revealed thanks to a hands-on video that surfaced online.

The hands-on video showed the phone's overall design. The smartphone is seen running Tizen OS version 2.2 with build number Z9005XXMI3, which according to the site was still under development. The reviewer also claimed that the Samsung Redwood Tizen smartphone was sent to developers in India.

The 10 minute long hands-on video of the 'Redwood' showed the smartphone in action and revealed different features such as how the toggle of the smartphone features a scrollable status bar with icon animations, which looked quite similar to Android and even Samsung's TouchWiz UI.

A pre-release version of Tizen 3.0 was supposedly leaked, running on the Galaxy S4, which gave us the first look at the alleged user-interface of the OS.
