Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi expects to ship 90 million units by the end of this year, a figure that if it achieves would be its highest, company founder and chief executive office Lei Jun said.

Xiaomi has had a splendid run so far this year, shipping more than 10 million smartphones across all the region it operates just last month. The company is working to recapture the top-vendor position in its home market of China in 2020, DigiTimes reported Jun as saying.

The company has been aggressively expanding its offerings to extend its reach in various markets. Not long ago, it launched the Redmi 5A, featuring a 5-inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 425, in the Chinese market at a price point of CNY 599 (roughly Rs. 5,900).

Its bet on expanding outside of China to strengthen its business is also chugging along smoothly. The company, which entered India roughly three years ago, has shipped more than 25 million smartphones in the country, the company said earlier this month.

According to research firm IDC, Xiaomi shipped 10.5 million smartphones in China in the quarter that ended in June, down from 17.1 million it had shipped during the same period a year ago. It is worth noting that Xiaomi.

Samsung, which shipping 79.8 million handsets in the quarter that ended in June, is the world's largest smartphone manufacturer in terms of shipping handsets, according to IDC. Whereas Apple, with 41 million handsets, Huawei, with 38.5 million handsets, Oppo, with 27.8 million handsets, and Xiaomi, with 21.2 million handsets, follow Samsung in the chart.
