Xiaomi has announced that it has sold three million smartphones in India to date. The Chinese company back in December had claimed it had sold 1 million smartphones in the country since its launch in July last year.

The company in a press statement said it crossed two million mark by March this year, and took another six months to touch the three million milestone.

The company entered the Indian market last year with its Mi 3 smartphone and since then has released the Mi 4, Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi Note, Redmi Note 4G, MiPad, Mi 4i, and Redmi 2 Prime. Xiaomi alongside also unveiled several accessories and other product categories including the Mi Band, Mi Power Banks and Mi Headphones. Unfortunately, the company hasn't revealed breakup of units.

Commenting on the milestone, Manu Jain, India Head, Xiaomi said, "The mobile ecosystem in India is growing at a very fast pace and we are happy to be an integral part of it. We are much more than just a smartphone company, as we also provide Internet services and sell our products through e-commerce, and we believe that we can contribute greatly to India's growth as a technological hub. Our recent inclusion in the Make in India programme is helping us be a part of the fabric of the nation, and we will continue to bring more amazing products to India and aim to deliver the best value to both our fans and partners."

Xiaomi India received a major push last month with its first 'Made in India' smartphone, the Redmi 2 Prime. Priced at Rs. 6,999, the smartphone is being manufactured at Foxconn facility in Sri City.
