Never Burn Your Tongue With a Smart Beverage Monitor

We've all done it - picked up a cup of coffee from the machine, sat down at the desk, and taken an absent-minded sip and scalded our tongue pretty badly. Sure, it sounds like a really minor issue - just take small sips, and drink once it's cooled down, but basically it means that you're going to take multiple sips when the cup is at the wrong temperature. Or, you ignore the cup for too long and your beverage gets cold.

The ReadySip is a stylish and cheap alternative to scalding yourself - basically, it's a food safe thermometer you can put in your cup, with an LED on top to show you whether the beverage is too hot, too cold, or in the Goldilocks zone.

The really cool part is that it comes with a Bluetooth antenna built in, and connects to your phone as well. With the mobile app, you can then set the temperature zone you're comfortable with or leave it at the defaults. Then, when it's too hot, the LED appears red, and too cool is blue, and in between it takes on a nice green colour. What's more, you also get a notification about your cup, so you don't have to watch the probe either.

Here's a video to explain how it works:

The project has a $20,000 goal (roughly Rs. 13 lakh), and there's 43 days to go with the funding closing on January 16. Early backers will be able to get the ReadySip at $20 (approximately Rs. 1,300), then there's a batch of 500 at $25, and if you miss that too, then you can get one at $30 (approximately Rs. 2,000). It is supposed to deliver anywhere in the world by May 2016.

About Kickstarter of the week
In this weekly column, we look at crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter, to try and find the coolest new projects from the world of crowdfunding. Not everything we find here is going to be the next Oculus Rift or Pebble Smartwatch, and of course, with any crowdfunded project there's the risk that it won't actually ship, even after being funded.

Still, if you can afford to set a little money aside, some of these projects can be really cool, and worth backing.

For example, there's the Auroma One smart coffee machine; the Griffin Pocket Tool XL, a pocket sized multitool that is great for DIY enthusiasts; the Atmotube, a wearable air quality monitor.
