Twitter Launches Embedded Video Widget for Websites

To stay ahead in the social media race, Twitter after launching its "While You Were Away" feature and group direct messaging in January, has now introduced a new embeddable video widget for websites.

As the name suggests, Twitter users will now be able to embed Twitter-hosted videos on any supported website. The option can be found under the 'more' prompt and functions in the same way regular embedding of a tweet.

Users, on clicking the 'Embed Video' option will see an automatic generated HTML code, which can be used on any supporting website. While copy-pasting the HTML code, users will also have the option to "Include Tweet when logo is clicked."

Twitter in its blog post added that video embeds are available for those videos which are captured using the social media giant's Android and iOS apps, as well as from Twitter Amplify Partners.

With the addition of this widget, Twitter seems to be trying to looking to increase user engagement and boost sales to advertisers. Facebook has also working on its own videos section, and has also made some inroads in the video embedding feature.

Twitter has lately been trying to expand its reach by adding new widgets and other options for other websites. The micro-blogging website last month introduced its first official Twitter plugin for WordPress. The new plugin found on Wordpress website includes several features like Twitter Cards, Twitter Analytics, Follow buttons and more. It also launched the "while you were away" recap feature for iOS and Android in January and February this year.
