Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold may appear very similar to last year’s model, but it does pack in plenty of upgrades under the hood. There’s a more power-efficient Tensor G5 processor, an IP68-rated design that now resists both dust and water, and finally Pixel Snap, which will let you snap on all sorts of official and third-party accessories to this foldable.
More Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold NewsIt has been a while since foldables took centre stage as the most premium devices in any smartphone brand's lineup of products. Apple has yet to showcase its first foldable (which it has been working on for a while), a move that is expected to give a boost to this smartphone segment that seems stuck in the doldrums when it comes to consumer adoption. At the same time, there is a new breed of foldable by Huawei that was launched in China last year, but went global this year. The “tri-folds” as they are currently referred to, are indeed what everyone dreamt foldables would be. A smartphone-sized device that, like something out of Westworld, would open up into a full-sized rectangular tablet serving two use cases.
Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a familiar design with minor changes. Its cover display has grown a bit bigger thanks to the new gear-less hinge, which apart from allowing more space for a bigger battery also gets this phone an IP68 rating for both dust and water resistance.
Its new chipset is not big on raw performance, but can efficiently handle both software and AI requirements of the phone, apart from providing decent gaming performance.
The software experience remains stock and comes loaded with AI features, most of which work as expected. The foldable will be the first to receive software updates and Google also offers a solid 7-year software commitment.
Battery life has improved and easily lasts a day with heavy usage. Charging speeds remain relatively slow. The foldable offers magnetic wireless charging (called Pixel Snap) but with capped charging speeds.
