BlackBerry managed to create a lot of stir when it revealed its plan to roll out the BlackBerry Messenger service (BBM) on rival platforms Android and iOS. Now, we have a release date for this, as @bbworldwid is touting that BBM will be rolling out to Android and iOS on June 27, 2013.

BlackBerry had announced plans to roll out BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) to Android and iOS in the month of May. BBM is a popular instant messaging application that lets BlackBerry users seamlessly exchange texts, audio, videos and pictures with each other.

Presently, there are plenty of rival applications such as WeChat, Nimbuzz and WhatsApp in the market. All these rival applications are available across platforms and are free of cost. Blackberry too had indicated that the BBM application on Android and iOS will be free at the time of launch.

BBM is used for sending over 10 billion messages a day, as per the last official numbers. The company had rolled out an update for BBM in December 2012, in form of BlackBerry Messenger 7. The most notable addition in the BlackBerry Messenger 7 was that it supported voice calls over Wi-Fi.

Earlier in the year BlackBerry had launched a brand new operating system dubbed BlackBerry 10. The company has made this new operating system from the ground up. BlackBerry is currently offering two smartphones-based on this new operating system - BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10. The company is already retailing its BlackBerry Z10 in India, while the BlackBerry Q10 will be launched on June 6.

BlackBerry has also announced a cheaper BlackBerry 10 smartphone called BlackBerry Q5. The Q5 is a QWERTY smartphone, which as per the company, will start retailing from July in select markets such Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. So far the company has not revealed the price for this phone.
