Fallout Shelter for Android to Be Released on August 13

Fallout Shelter, Bethesda's post-apocalyptic take on Farmville, launched on iOS devices on June 14. While it was a more than competent stab at the simulator genre, Android fans were up in arms as the game was not available on Google's green robot. This changes on August 13. Much like the iOS version, it will be free.

The game will also include brand new updates. These include Mr. Handy - a robotic companion as a premium reward to scavenge the wasteland and harvest resources within your vault. New threats will also be present such as deathclaw invasions and molerat infestations. The updates will be available for iOS on the same day.

It will be interesting to see how successful the game will be on Android. On iOS the game overtook Candy Crush Saga as the App Store's number three top grossing app in the US. This was followed up with being in the top five grossing games on the App Store in 37 different countries. In the first week following its release, play sessions of Fallout Shelter have surpassed 70 million times a day by fans globally.

The iOS version was touted for the ability to play it completely offline. A welcome addition considering that most free-to-play experiences don't work without an Internet connection (in order to prevent cheating), we wonder if this will be the same on Android. Even games like Chrono Trigger (which wasn't free-to-play) was playable offline on iOS but needed you to be online ever so often on Android. And while Bethesda's press release fails to mention if offline parity would be maintained, we'll probably have to wait till August 13 to find out.
