A week after releasing the revamped Foursquare app for Android and iOS in the new split app model, the company released its social-centric check-ins app Swarm for the Windows Phone platform on Wednesday. Notably, the app was introduced for Android and iOS devices back in May.

"We're so excited to announce Swarm is now available to download on Windows Phone. It's the best way to keep up and meet up with your friends, so pin it to your start screen today," stated Foursquare's official blog post.

As noted by The Next Web, there is a minor difference in the layout of the navigation bar between the Swarm app for Windows Phone and the Android and iOS counterparts. While the Windows Phone and Android versions of Swarm show the tabbed navigation bar placed on top of the screen, the app on the iOS devices has it positioned at the bottom.

To recall, the Swarm app lets users check-in, find friends in the vicinity and share what they are doing at a given place. Neighbourhood sharing is one of the main features of Swarm. This enables users to share what they are up to with those nearby. In case the users want some privacy, the app lets them disable neighbourhood sharing from the home screen itself.

Foursquare says Swarm is best utilised when users are looking for friends to join them on a particular activity. The firm says if the users want to watch a film, they can use Swarm to find out which of their nearby friends are free, instead of texting them.

The Swarm app is unfortunately a Windows Phone 8.1 exclusive and is sized at 4MB. The app is available to download from the Windows Phone Store.

In addition to this announcement, the official blog also mentioned that the revamped version of the Foursquare app, unveiled for Android and iOS last week, will reach Windows Phone by the end of this year.

"We've got even more in store for Swarm on iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone. And, stay tuned, because the new Foursquare for Windows Phone is coming this fall," the blog post added.
