Gmail, Inbox by Gmail Get Responsive Design for Reader-Friendly Experience

Google has announced that it is redesigning its Gmail interface to make emails be more reader friendly on mobile. Gmail and Inbox by Gmail getting a responsive design, which means mails will adjust themselves to the type of device they are being viewed on, whether mobiles or desktops.

Traditionally, emails were default formatted to the large desktop screen, and reading them on the smartphone was a huge hassle. Images were too large to display on the small screen, which means they extended outside of the screen and seeing the entire image was troublesome. In other cases, some mails are formatted with the mobile display in mind, making them strange to read on the desktop. Google's new responsive design aims to alleviate both issues.

In the recent past, many websites and Internet platforms have shifted to a responsive design as more and more users and consuming content on the smartphone. Apps especially are designed to have a mobile-friendly design to fit everything into a small screen.

Google has finally got onto the bandwagon and brought the responsive design in Gmail and Inbox by Gmail. So if the message is adaptive, it will automatically resize its contents to help you see an image fully, read content and tap links with ease. "Starting later this month, Gmail and Inbox by Gmail will support emails created with responsive design, meaning their content adapts to fit screens of all sizes. Text, links, and even buttons will enlarge to make reading and tapping easier on a smaller screen. If you're on desktop, you'll also see improvements, since emails designed for mobile can also adapt to fit larger screens," Pierce Vollucci, Product Manager at Google, said in a statement.

While there is no tangible date of release, Google should bring the support with an update sometime later this month. To protect users, Google recently also released two new security features that attempt to make Gmail a little more foolproof place to be.
