Twitter's Periscope App Updated With Follower Only Mode and More

Periscope, Twitter's live streaming app that launched last month for iOS and got an update within a week, has once again been updated with a bunch of new features. The update, which brings the app to version 1.0.2, mainly deals with blocking of spam and making it simpler for users to track broadcasts from friends.

The update revamps the home screen of the iOS app by bifurcating the 'Watch' tab in to 'Friends' and 'Global' tabs, which makes it easy to differentiate between broadcasts from friends and global users.

As a part of the update, Periscope has also introduced a new 'Follower Only' mode, which lets broadcasters only let those users comment on their broadcasts who they follow. Other minor changes included in v1.0.2 of the app are the display of verified ticks for those who are verified on Twitter, major "scrolling performance improvements", easy blocking of users with just two taps (tap on comment to block it), several bugs dealing with viewing of comments and hearts, as well as caching and iOS 7 compatibility issues, have been fixed. The updated Periscope app for iOS is available to download from the App Store.

Earlier this month, Twitter updated Periscope to version 1.0.1 with several changes such as showing broadcasts from the people a user follows right on top for easier viewing, the option of not to share the location before broadcasting the feed, new 'Featured' section, and more.

Periscope is Twitter's attempt to get in on the live video streaming craze that was started by Meerkat. The basic premise of the app is that you use your phone's camera to start broadcasting videos live. It then shows the number of people watching the video, with a neat little rising heart animation accompanying every new person who joins.
